COMMUNAL VIOLENCE

Anti-Sikh Riots in 1984 following assassination of India’s Prime Minister Indira Gandhi forced Saheli to confront the dark reality of communal violence. Our work evolved a different perspective following our active involvement in the relief and rehabilitation work. Later in 2002, the scale of brutality unleashed on women with the complicity of state agencies and Hindu civil society in Gujarat shook all of us. Over the years we have stretched ourselves to support in our own way and continue to engage in the struggles against war and militarization.
